FAQs

How do I get started?

Step 1: Decide which of my services is the right one for you. Check out this advice if you’re struggling to decide. Still lost? Get in touch with me and between us we’ll find the best option for you.

Step 2: Send me an email with your name, email address, manuscript title (or working title) and few details about your work. Word count, genre, and a short summary of the plot if possible. It’s also helpful for me to know what your goals are. Are you just writing for yourself? Are you looking to self-publish? Or will you be querying agents after a round of edits? Whatever your destination, it gives me useful context about your needs.

Step 3: I’ll get back to you as soon as I’m able with my availability and a quote, plus an estimated delivery date. If you have a hard deadline to work to, please let me know. If you need your work back urgently, please ask about my premium quick-turnaround options.

Step 4: If I am available and you’re happy with my quote and delivery date, we can work together! Please only send me your manuscript at this stage.

Step 5: Once I’ve received you manuscript, I can start work. I recommend you go and do something relaxing!

Step 6: I complete my feedback and send you an invoice. Once I receive payment, I send you my notes. If there’s anything in the notes that is unclear, I do remain available to clarify any details.

What's the difference between the different types of editing?

Check out my Services page for more information on what editing involves and which might be right for you.

What does an editor do?

Have a look at this page to learn more about an editor's job; what it is and what it isn't.

Do I need to be edited?

No piece of writing is ever perfect. But having a fresh pair of eyes to look over your work and point out things you might have missed or not considered is invaluable to any writer. An editor is there to challenge their writer's weaknesses and highlight their strengths. Editorial feedback gives you, the author, a starting point for your own redrafting and editing. How much does editing cost?

This will depend on the kind of editing you’re looking for, your goals, and whether you want an extra-quick turnaround time. Please email me for a quote.

How soon will I get my feedback?

This also depends on what kind of editing you’ve chosen, my own availability, and any deadlines you’re working towards. In general, I will try to get my feedback to you within about four weeks, but this is not a fixed time-frame.

Can I send my manuscript in the post?

If you have any special requirements when it comes to sending me your manuscript, drop me an email and I’ll do my best to accommodate you.

Do you offer coaching or face-to-face sessions to help out writers?

Typically, no. I try to be as informative and helpful in my feedback as possible, but in the instance that you feel you need more of a face-to-face feedback session, let me know and I’ll do what I can to meet your needs.

Do you have a Privacy Policy?

Yes! Check it out here.

If you have any concerns or queries that aren't addressed here, don't hesitate to get in touch with me and ask.
